Lorenzo Bianchi

I was born in Frosinone, Italy, in 1993.

I received the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 2015 and the Master’s Degree in Robotics and Automation Engineering from the University of Pisa in 2019.

I am currently a researcher at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where I am involved in different projects about neural networks and drones. In 2021 I was a member of Tor Vergata team that won the second prize at the 2021 edition of the Leonardo Drone Contest, where I worked as developer, tester and pilot.

My research interests deal with autonomous systems such as driverless cars, mobile robots and drones, and deep learning for image recognition.

Other than building and coding drones, I also like flying them. I am a certified pilot and I have two quadcopters, a self-built racing one and a tiny whoop I use to practice indoor.

In my private life I have many interests: as almost every Millennial I grew up playing videogames and, even if the last years I have not been playing so often as I used to do, I still am a huge fan of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series.
And I am not planning to quit with them.

I prefer watching movies than reading books because I think that images and sounds make you feel stronger emotions than words.
But when I find a book that I love, I usually finish it in a couple of days.

The biggest passion I have is photography. I started seriously just a few years ago with a Nikon D5500, which I still use, but I have always taken pictures with smartphones and small cameras since I have memories. I usually take my reflex with me wherever I go and I spend whole days trying to find new wonderful places and the perfect moments to digitally catch the world around me.
A warm and silent summer night, taking pictures of the starry sky and wondering how little we are in the universe, is among the best moments I could ever ask to live.

I love playing volleyball as setter and spiker. I am not a huge football fan but I regularly follow the matches of my city team, Frosinone Calcio, and before Covid period I used to go often to away matches in other cities...and it was always a good occasion to take many new pictures :)
